The Writer's Chair is a podcast about the reality behind the craft.
Hosted by Daniel Willcocks, each episode pulls back the curtain on how books actually get made. The doubts. The discipline. The long road between idea and finished work.
Guests include working authors from across genre fiction and beyond: people doing interesting things with story, building careers on their own terms, and willing to talk honestly about what that really looks like.
No hacks. No shortcuts. No hacks. Just real conversations about writing—and why we keep coming back to the page.
Honest Conversations
No highlight reels. No polished answers. Just real talk about writing, doubt, craft, and survival.
Real Working Authors
Thoughtful discussions with writers doing the work — not performances, not sales pitches.
Reflections From the Chair
Solo episodes on craft, discipline, and staying connected to the work when life gets in the way.
Featured guests.
About Your Host
Daniel Willcocks is a dark fiction author, podcaster, and publisher with over a decade of experience in and around the world of books.
He is the author of more than 70 novels, novellas, and short works across horror, thriller, and dark fiction. He is co-creator of the Twisted Tales series, co-founder of The Other Stories podcast — one of the most widely downloaded fiction podcasts in the world with over 12 million downloads — and founder of Devil’s Rock Publishing, a platform dedicated to championing quality storytelling and connecting readers with writers doing interesting work.
The Writer’s Chair grew out of a desire to talk more honestly about writing. Not just the wins, but the craft, the doubt, the discipline, and the long road of making work that matters. As a host, Daniel brings curiosity, directness, and a deep respect for the writing process — creating space for real conversation rather than performance.
